Additive Manufacturing

Testing Everything from Powder to Finished Parts

Over the past 30 years, additive manufacturing has progressed from simple design prototypes to full-fledged production across all metal alloy types and materials classes.  It is a fundamentally enabling technology that links digital design for performance to advanced materials science.

Supplying the Source of Truth Data

NSL Analytical is a thought leader in testing for industrial additive manufacturing. From metal powder to metal wire to ceramic powders our services are supplying the source of truth data for feedstock characterization that manufacturers and end users need to introduce additive technologies.  We are also active in supporting standards development and delta qualification for expanded production.

NSL supports Additive Manufacturing in several major efforts:

  • Powder Physical Properties testing
  • Materials Chemistry analysis for Feedstock materials
  • Additively printed part testing and characterization

In the area of materials chemistry analysis we provide services from mass spectroscopy, ICP, Leco, XRF, and XRD testing on the complete range of additive feedstock materials.

For part testing and characterization, we operate a fully capable metallurgical laboratory with services including metallography, SEM with remote login capability, tensile and charpy testing, and elevated temperature testing capabilities.

NSL is supporting this with a powder analysis laboratory for techniques such as metal powder bed fusion or directed energy deposition.
