Operations Technician I

Position Summary:  

Technician working under supervision and direction of the Team Lead, Metallurgist or Site Leader with detailed instructions as to the required tasks and results expected.  Performs a variety of routine process and tests and assists by carrying out detailed steps of analysis. 

Primary Responsibilities/Key Attributes*:

  1. Prepares samples using multiple machine tools including sample cutting, turning, milling, and belt sanding.  Sets up and operates machine tools. (PT-002M1 & PT-002M2)
  2. Maintains facility and equipment, including preventative maintenance.
  3. Heat Treating (PT-006)
  4. Recording and Saving Test Temperatures (PT-006M1)
  5. Brinell Hardness (MET-004M1)
  6. Rockwell Hardness (MET-004M2)
  7. Compiles results and enters them into the LIMS.
  8. Responsible for proper chemical hygiene and safety for all areas of the facility.
  9. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decreases turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to maintain quality assurance of results and seamless customer service.
  10. Basic problem solving or troubleshooting of analytical techniques or methods. 
  11. Adhere to laboratory safety standards.
  12. Responsible for proper chemical hygiene and safety for all areas of the facility.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • At least (1 to 5) years of experience working full-time in a metallic materials testing laboratory performing metallurgical preparation, testing and analysis.
  • Associates Degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Commercial testing laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi-task.

Work Conditions/Physical Demands:

General lab environment which may include sitting, standing and walking; frequent lifting of up to 30 lbs., pulling, pushing, carrying, reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, and crouching.  Work is completed in an environment that may contain toxic materials with possible exposure to odors, acids, fumes and other reactive materials.
